i think it's one of the dumbest things to do. what about all the old liturature?? how in the world would they even be able to read all of that if they can't spell it? i know shakespeare is a must in high school graduation. how would they be able to comprehend it? i think they should keep it the way it is. phonics is a good way to start it out, a good way to first learn how to read and spell new words, but if we just change everything, how many books would we have to rewrite? it doesn't make sense. words are spelled based on a set of rules, just like everything else. if teachers and students paid more attention to the basics rules, we wouldn't have such a big problem. but that's just my opinion. if you others want, you can tear my response to shreads.
